Golfito is located in the Puntarenas Province on the southern Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, near the border of Panama. Golfito is located along a narrow strip of land between a bay and a shopping & residential area to the south. Golfito is Costa Rica’s only city situated within a declared protection area. Originally a banana port during the 1950’s, Golfito now relies on duty-free shopping and tourism as its economic strength.

The beauty and natural simplicity of Golfito is unmatched anywhere in the world. Botanical gardens nearby produce a calming experience as its location is ideal for visitors who wish to wander peacefully amidst thousands of plant species, butterflies and birds. Just south of Golfito is a peaceful town named Pavones. Pavones doesn’t offer much except for great surfing, seafood and very warm ocean water, perfect for a day of lounging. Popular attractions are the Golfito National Wildlife Reserve, a famous national park with diverse flora and wildlife. Cataratas y Sendenros Avellan is a guided two hour hike through the forests and a visit to a beautiful forest waterfall. The waters off Golfito offer some of the best sportfishing in Costa Rica anywhere in the world. Most game fish species can be caught here year round including blue and black marlin, sailfish, and roosterfish.
